There are plenty of organizations out there currently trying to rehab the river. It's such an interesting lens on the city and America and the human FEAR of the UNKNOWN in Nature (LOL yes re Lovecraft). I'll make more on the river in the future.
Great video. Going to college in Claremont, Mt. Baldy was often in the distance..when I could see it. A couple times a year, me and a friend or two would drive up and hike up for awhile. There's also a zen monastery on part of it, which was headed by an aged monk who turned out to have numerous sexual misconduct allegations against him going back decades.
I think people don't think about the San Gabriels, because unlike the mountains of the PNW, or the Rockies etc., they're just not embedded into the landscape and the psyche in the same way. It's a weird thing. Canada, and Toronto especially, is full of actors who still want to move to L.A. no matter how dystopian America becomes, but no one is ever aware of these kinds of things, of course. I still think the greatest, and most accurate film about L.A. ever made is The Big Lebowski.
The gaze in LA definitely goes elsewhere for some reason. I can't stop looking at them in winter though when they have snow. Smog has definitely decreased their literal visibility until recent years.
Wild! Never thought much of those mtns. before and always wondered how what seems like a little bit of rain could cause so much chaos. Wonder if there are any old proposed capture projects worth revisiting.
I heard your mother is concerned for your safety and fears how you might raise the hackles of Führer Trump? I can certainly understand her concern!
Very interesting piece, who knew, thanks ... Love, Mom♥
🤣🤣😬
Love this. LOVE. Love you, too.
ha! thanks dude!!
The Sierra Madre's sheer relief makes for some amazingly strenuous hiking.
I wonder if they'll ever do justice to the WORLD'S LONGEST PAVED RIVER any time soon. Let it breathe a bit, bring back banks of yore.
Also, is the title a reference to Lovecraft's short story haha

Less than 60 minutes 😮 is that real ????
City planners used to claim that after the channel was built. But it must take longer, maybe not that much longer though.
